Carry a Photo;

     If you have ever had to attend a stressful meeting or know the feeling of having to accomplish a difficult task that involves interacting with a person or group that you may not like or find difficult to deal with, then consider carrying an image of someone in your past, or present, that you associate with pleasant memories. This is a buffering, or calming effect. Studies at Cornell University have shown that by using this technique individuals can lessen the stressors that can bring on anxiety, fear and other negative feelings. The image is of a positive attachment figure.

      This could be a close friend, parent, partner or even a pet. Research has been done to demonstrate that in many individuals this technique can be used prior to, or anticipating a stressful situation, but can also be used once you’ve been exposed to internal or external stress factors. In today’s world you can have this image on your smart phone, or choose to just carry a photo that you can easily access. Try it!
